WORLD ISLAND YOUTH GAMES
The World Youth Island Games has been running annually since its initial conception in 1989. Originally competitors from Corsica, Madeira Island, Sardinia and Sicily competed in a range of sports.
The Isle of Wight joined the group of Islands in 2002 and the event has grown now to include 24 wide ranging Islands, from the Isle of Wight and Jersey through the Canary Islands and Majorca.
The 2011Games are being hosted by the Island of Sicily between 24 May to the 29 May. Please see below for an update on the Isle of Wight team on the 2011 Games or visit the official website

WORLD ISLAND YOUTH GAMES – SICILY 2011 Latest news......................... Friday 27th May - Athletics Today is a rest day the teams are off on a coach tour to the beach and the sicillian country side, so a lay-in until 8.30am is welcome for them.
Thursday 26th May – Athletics Polly Hopper on the podium when winning her bronze medal in the 200 mtrs in PB of 25.88 secs same time as the 2nd but photofinish just parted them. Top Quality performance.
Thursday 26th May – Sailing Racing began yesterday and continued today with two more races – Josh Atherton is 2points away from bronze medal after day the first day results.
Thursday 26th May – Swimming Swimming competition began this morning and both the boys and girls have achieved significant PB’s (personal best).
Izabella Blacklock came 5th missing out on a bronze by 8 /100th second which is a massive achievement as she is a year younger than the other competitors.
Wednesday 25th May – Athletics
Good news at the start of the competition as Carla Plowden Roberts wins our first medal. The girls 4 x 100 relay team of Holly Newton, Polly Hopper, Annabelle Marsh and Tayler Canning win Silver.
Kieran Phillips came 4th in the Hammer with a new PB (personal best), Tom Newnham just run out of a medal in 4th place in the 1500 mtrs with another PB, Polly Hopper had PB of 60.06 in the 400mtrs.
