The IOW Council is committed to supporting talented & gifted athletes of all ages. Sports Development Officer Ray Scovell is the Sports Unit’s Talented & Gifted Development Officer.

This role includes the delivery of talented athlete support programmes, such as the Talented Athlete Programme and the Individual Sportspersons Grant. These support packages aim to help the Island’s top athletes reach their full potential. Support available includes financial grants, discounted (and free) access to training facilities, public transport, physiotherapy and specialist coach support

The role also involves the continued development of identifying and nurturing talented and gifted athletes of the future. The Sports Unit coordinates multi-skill assessments for every year 4 pupil. Following the assessments the top performing children are then invited to the Sports Development Academy, where children are given the opportunity to learn new skills and access high quality sports coaching in a fun and friendly environment.
