SPORTS DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY


Sports Development Officer Ray Scovell coordinates the Sports Development Academy, the Academy aimed at identifying and nurturing talented young sportspeople provides

The Sports Unit coordinates multi-skill assessments for 4 pupils during the Autumn Term every year, the assessment comprises of a series of multi-skill tests. The performances of every child are recorded and as a result each and every child is provided with a Level between 1 and 7. Level 5 equates to Bronze level, Level 6 to Silver level and Level 7 to Gold level.

Following the autumn assessments the top 30 boys and top 30 girls across the Island are then invited to the Sports Development Academy in the Spring/Summer Term. The Academy initially runs for 6 sessions, based at Medina Leisure Centre on Saturday’s between 10am to 1pm. The first 6 sessions of the Academy are focused on further sports and fitness assessments, learning new multi-skills and enjoying the experience of participating with other talented young sportspeople.

Following on from the initial 6 sessions, the Academy then runs on a monthly basis. The focus on developing the children’s natural ability at a variety of multi-skills and multi-sports, whilst ensuring the children are accessing the best sporting opportunities available.
