We want to encourage better neighbourhood relations. We will work harder to understand and act on community concerns, alongside the police. We will also focus on improvements to the environment and the street scene.
We want to encourage active local involvement and provide the social and education services that help individuals and communities thrive. We want to create a sense of local pride right across the Island.
We want to provide value for money council services at an affordable council tax level – at or below inflation every year. We want to ensure we are spending this money in areas that are important to you. We are open to all suggestions but hope that these three themes reflect your priorities. If not, let us know!
We know that we need to change to deliver these improvements. We now have
the leadership and resources to help us to do that. Things will change because
they need to – delivering better services for Islanders who deserve the
very best.
Over the next year the council will work hard to drive up standards
across all its service areas by: setting our ambitions high and monitoring
progress, demonstrating value for money and significantly improving major
services, listening to the needs of local residents.
We will know when we have achieved our goal when you tell us you are better satisfied with the council. We will undertake an annual resident survey to chart our progress and will involve Islanders in shaping the policies and publish the survey results. If we all work together One Island will lead to a better Isle of Wight. We look forward to hearing what you have to say.
We are holding the first in a series of public events around the Island, to discuss and explore each of the three key areas with you in more detail. So come along and tell us exactly how we can make a difference to Island life.
