If voted in I will again work tirelessly for you. I have been a member of the Youth Council for two years and have been involved in the U.K. Youth Parliament. During this time I have worked for you the young person and your interests and I have never backed down yet! If elected not only will I act on the campaign points below but also on your suggestions and ideas.
I campaign for:
- Better representation for young people on buses, if you’re sick of being constantly treated badly on public transport I will fight for you to get this changed.
- More facilitates for young people, such as cafes, music events, clubs sports and activities including regular extreme sports events.
- A more positive image of young people by the police and media. Often the media and the police are too quick to jump to conclusions – we are not all yobs and I will fight to get this changed!
- A fairer deal for young people in the workplace. Just because you are younger than other employees doesn’t mean you deserve to be treated badly, I’m fed up of being discriminated against because I am young, and I’m sure you are too.
- Lobbing of parliament by the UKYP to bring change for you, which I will be a key part of.
I will communicate with you by way of notice boards and surgeries along with emails and you can contact me to let me know what you, the young people, want to change.

Hello. I really believe I should be elected because I will:
-Campaign with the UKYP to abolish or reduce university fees
-Introduce a free of charge concession card to all sport and leisure centres
-Campaign so youths don't pay adult prices until the age of 18 on transport, cinemas and social facilities
-Campaign to introduce water sports in the school curriculum
Please vote for me!

Newport needs a place outside where teenagers can hang out together without being moved on. There could be a MUGA a shelter and a graffiti wall, any one of these would improve the situation. PCSOs and street youth workers could help supervise such a place.
I’d like to organise regular all day events, for young people, at St Georges football ground. These would involve things like football coaching, dance classes, drum workshops and lots of different activities to attract different age groups.
We need regular music events for under 18s and to cater for different groups we could have a rave night one week and a bands night the next, these could take place in night clubs before the older people go in.
I would also look for funds to hire out the Studio, in Newport, on a regular basis, for young people, as an alternative to youth clubs.
If elected I will aim to get a place, in Newport, where young mums can meet each other on a regular basis. There could be a crèche, for their children, run by child care students from the college. They could also learn lots about child care and, for example, access things like computer courses etc.

Student Rider – The success of the student rider on the Isle of Wight was fantastic, I would however like to see more discount going across to the mainland. On the ferries, on trains and on buses. Possibly a National Students Card offering a discount.
Finding a job is something that young people across the UK strive to achieve, however it is becoming an increasing struggle to find jobs for young people. If elected I will do my utmost to help those without jobs find suitable work, part time and seasonal. This could be achieved by working closely with the Young Chamber of Commerce.
Also the minimum wage for young people is unfair, an 18 year old receives more than a 16 year old doing the same job, and this is unfair. Adults over 22 also receive more; if you are doing the same job then the same wage should be issued. There is a difference of £2.20 per hour from over 22 year olds to under 18’s, this is unfair!
I’d also like to organise more arts and music events, music and art is vitally important in developing young minds and is key to relaxing and common talking ground. Local music events provide opportunity for young musicians and will hopefully help them achieve their dreams.
Thank you for your Vote!

Young people need more interesting things to do, especially in the evenings at weekends and during the holidays. The community could do more for young people as we are a part of the community too. This is an issue for young people all across the Island and Youth clubs could help by opening after school clubs, when more people would go, and they could provide a range of activities including singing lessons.
School buses are a problem with bad behaviour and bullying; there should be supervisors on each bus and these could also supervise people getting on to the buses outside school, teachers do this at the moment and it takes up time they could be spending on school work, like marking, for example.
I will campaign for more healthy activities, all round the Island, and better publicity for them.
We need more recycling bins, in accessible places and in bright colours to attract attention to them.
Public toilets on the Island are a disgrace; run down and not cleaned enough. The council should be providing the community with modern facilities fit for the 21st century.

I’d like the opinions of youth to be heard on subjects such as wind farms because our views are being neglected and it’s older people who objected to the wind farm at Wellow.
I will work on the campaign to get cheaper ferry fares for teenagers to cross the Solent.
I’d campaign to retain events like White Air and to revive the moto cross, at Arreton, as these are popular with young people.
I’d like to see more local venues for live music, such as Sandown Youth Club, for example.

I’ll look into getting more facilities and things to do for young people across the Island to try to reduce crime, anti social behaviour and under age drinking.
I will encourage young people to get involved in organisations like the Army cadets because they don’t know how much you can gain from membership; you can learn first aid and get qualifications, like the Duke of Edinburgh Award which helps your future career.
Young people need to know more about the environment and to be more environmentally friendly. Things like breaking saplings or any kind of vandalism and dropping litter is harmful to the environment.
I will campaign for cheaper off peak travel on the ferries.
All these things will benefit young people as they will get respect from the rest of the community and improve the image of young people.

Young people need more things to do in the evenings and weekends, youth clubs don’t advertise enough and could do more for older teenagers. The name “youth club” puts off older teenagers and the youth council could suggest a new name for facilities.
Many young people don’t know about the One Card and how it helps access to leisure centres. Access to leisure centres should be cheaper and the One Card publicised more.
The school bus pass system should be changes as the 3 mile limit is unfair to lots of young people. All school travel should be free and this could be funded by bringing the time you can use it until forward by an hour to 5pm.

There are a lot of unemployed young people in RURAL AREAS and I’ll negotiate with the college to extend some NVQ and other vocational courses to the rural parts of the Island. Perhaps these could take place at the Youth Centres in Freshwater, Yarmouth, Ventnor and other places.
There’s a lot of untapped musical talent on the Island and I’ll explore the idea of getting Platform 1 to do workshops and performances in rural areas.
I will aim to build a database of youth employment opportunities, both seasonal and part time across the Island; this will give young people more choices and an opportunity to comment on their employment experiences.
I will promote youth awareness on environmental issues and raise our issues with the council within the Eco Island agenda.
In my role as International Ambassador for the UK Young Chamber of Commerce I’ve developed contacts within the ferry firms, which I’ll use to boost the campaign for cheaper ferry fares.

Older teenagers grow out of youth clubs and end up hanging around and doing nothing. We need places just for our age group to meet and socialise, which are modern facilities and have a relaxed atmosphere.
We need more places for live bands to play; places like the Studio in Newport. We could look for funds to hire out the Studio and other venues for events.
People who cause troubles and commit anti social behaviour need help to overcome their attitude problems. It would help to have people who’ve been through that situation and come through it to talk to the younger ones about their experiences. If just a few of these young people could change it would benefit all of us.
I will listen to all young people's views and act on them where I can.
