My Aims are:
Open Yarmouth Youth Centre more and more advertising for other island Youth Centres.
Health awareness needs improving amongst young people, especially around drugs, alcohol and healthy eating.
More events for young people throughout the year organised by students. Events could include band nights, sports, performance arts shows and art and craft workshops.
Youth Centres would have a revision night where all subjects can be revised and helped with for better results at school
I would try changing the Route for free bus passes the distance should be measured along the road journey and not as the crow flies as this route can’t be taken.
I would look to improve the routes and coverage of school buses out to the West Wight.
I will also make links between the youth council and the young chamber of commerce.

I was previously on the IWYC for 2 years and left due to work commitments. In that time we achieved the Student Rider and the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) in Freshwater. The MUGA has got a lot of young people off the streets and seriously reduced anti social behaviour in the town.
There’s recently been a new shelter put up, for the youth, and I will work with the Freshwater Skate Group to upgrade the skate park. I also helped out at the Community School in Totland.
I want to carry on with the work I started, while on the IWYC and feel I learnt a lot of skills from my experience, however, I feel I can do a lot more and I want to sort out an area for the youth in Totland as there are a lot of young people hanging out in the area with nothing to do.
I will also work with West Wight Youth Centre to improve facilities for young people and plan events

Buses to West Wight should run later in the evening to allow older young people to access all sorts of facilities and entertainments such as bowling in Ryde. This could be done by cutting one or two services earlier in the evening.
Young people over 16 would like a place, just for them, to meet and socialise, which has more of an adult feel to it. All through this summer some young people had the opportunity to use a club privately owned for this and so would like something similar offered by the council, I will work towards finding a facility to do this.
The hall on Totland recreation ground is underused and I’ll aim to work with Totland Parish Council to use the hall for disco nights and band nights on alternate weeks.

There are a lot of unemployed young people in West Wight and I’ll negotiate with the college to extend some NVQ and other vocational courses to the West Wight. Perhaps these could take place at the Youth Centres in Freshwater and Yarmouth.
There’s a lot of untapped musical talent in West Wight and I’ll explore the idea of getting Platform 1 to do workshops and performances in West Wight.
I will aim to build a database of youth employment opportunities, both seasonal and part time across the Island; this will give young people more choices and an opportunity to comment on their employment experiences.
I will promote youth awareness on environmental issues and raise our issues with the council within the Eco Island agenda.
In my role as International Ambassador for the UK Young Chamber of Commerce I’ve developed contacts within the ferry firms, which I’ll use to boost the campaign for cheaper ferry fares.
