School Transport

Privilege Seat Scheme

Privilege seats are available for parents/guardians to purchase if their child is not eligible for a free term ticket and would like for them to travel on a contracted school bus service.

How to Apply

You will be able to apply for a privilege seat for all students, including sixth form students, from 10am on Monday 23 October 2017.

Please be aware that from this date applications will be processed and seats allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If it is not possible to offer a seat to your child, they will be added to a waiting list for the service applied for and you will be notified of this.

Please note you will only be able to apply for one bus service per application form, so if you live in an area which is served by more than one bus service, you will need to make separate applications for each of the services you would like your child to be considered for.

Further information on current bus routes can be accessed via the ‘School Bus Routes’ tab above.

Online

The form will be available from 10am on Monday 23 October 2017 via the 'Do It Online' tab above and is called an ‘Application for a Privilege Seat on School Transport’.

Phone

If you are unable to complete the form yourself you can telephone the councils’ contact centre and a member of staff will complete the form on your behalf. The phone number can be found under the ‘Contact’ tab, above.

Please be aware that making a privilege seat application does not guarantee a seat.

Contacting Parents/Guardians with the outcome

If your child has been selected as having a seat, you will be sent details of how you should pay.

If your child has not been successful in securing a seat they will be placed on a waiting list for the service(s) applied for. You will be notified that your child is on the waiting list(s) and you will then be contacted as and when seats become available.

We aim to process applications within 10 working days.

Payment

If your child has been selected as having a seat you will need to make payment as soon as possible and before your child uses the bus. Should payment not be received within two weeks of a seat being offered it will be assumed that you do not want to take up the offer of a privilege seat and the seat will be offered to another child.

You would then need to reapply during a new application window should you want to take up a seat again.

Should you have difficulty in making payment by the deadline, please contact the Transport Team. You can send us a message directly by clicking here to use the ‘Send a message to this service’ form or alternatively our details can be found via the ‘Contact’ tab above.

Please remember that if you have not made payment your child will not be permitted to travel.

Privilege Seat Availability

You can apply for all bus services but please be aware that there are waiting lists for some services and other services have very limited availability. If it is not possible to offer a seat your child will be added to a waiting list for the service applied for and you will be notified of this.
