Term Dates for Academic Year 2016 - 2017
The Government is currently progressing legislation that will require state schools in England to decide their own term dates. This is likely to apply from September 2016, however the necessary legislative changes are not in place yet. Even if the new legislation is approved and it applies from September 2016, the Local Authority will provide a recommended and formally determined school calendar for 2016-17 as a basis for any school level decision. This calendar will be made available on our website in May/June 2015. However we must stress that schools may choose an alternative calendar. If you have any doubts about dates it is advisable to contact your child's school directly.

School Development Day Closures
Maintained schools are entitled to take five days each year when they work in school without the children present. These days are for staff training and are important for the development of teaching methods. These are sometimes known as 'INSET' (In Service Educational Training) days but we refer to them as 'Development Days'. The Local Authority will publish a list of closures as they are notified to us by the school.
For the 2014/2015 academic year, schools are entitled to five development days - one fixed on the 1st September 2014, and four to be allocated by the school.

It is the responsibility of each individual school to notify parents/guardians of their development day closures and to those supplying meals and transport. Please note however that Academies are not required to notify the Local Authority of development days, though we will publish the information where known. If you have any queries regarding the school closure dates shown please contact your child's school/college directly for clarification in the first instance.
