Cowes Floating Bridge

Foot Passenger charges from June 2016

From midday on the 1 June 2016 new charges and a new way of purchasing tickets will be introduced for foot passengers (with the exception of under 19's) using the floating bridge.

Fixed ticket machines have been installed at the Floating Bridge these are adjacent to the slipways at both Cowes and East Cowes.  You will be able to pay cash for your journey when using these machines.  Using this method will mean that a return journey will cost £1.00.

Alternatively, if you are a regular floating bridge foot passenger you are advised to purchase a Saver Card which will enable you to pay the lower 'regular user' rate of £0.70 per return journey. The Saver Card initially costs £2.00 to purchase which you will recover and make savings on your travel after 7 return trips.

Saver cards will initially be available to buy from the Floating Bridge office in Cowes from Wednesday 18 May 2016,  the office will be open Monday to Friday between 7.30am and 3.00pm with additional retail outlets being added in due course.

Once you have purchased a Saver Card you will need to set up an account and register the card online to be able to benefit from the lower charge of £0.70. Full details of how to set up an account and register your card will be available from our dedicated website which will go live on Wednesday 18 May to coincide with the launch of the Saver Cards.

Once your saver card has been registered you can add credit to your account by using the following methods:-

  • Online using a credit/debit card.
  • Fixed ticket machines using a credit/debit card or cash.

When you want to travel as a foot passenger on the floating bridge simply queue up, and when boarding a member of the floating bridge staff will swipe the card and £0.70 will be deducted from your account.

Currently the Saver Cards will be for foot passengers only; however, when the replacement bridge comes into service in early 2017 a two tier pricing system will be introduced for vehicles and the Saver Cards will be able to be used by vehicles.

Please visit the website from Wednesday 18 May 2016, where you will find full details of the Saver Card, the facility to add credit to your Saver card as well as up to date information on the service status and progress on the construction of the replacement bridge.
