Philo Cafe at Cowes Library Thursday 28 September 7 - 9pm

This is a monthly event, sponsored by the Society for the Furtherance of Critical Philosophy and is open to anyone who wants to take part in philosophical discussion about topics that matter in our lives, but in a casual way and is based on our own experiences. Topic to be decided.

6-week Adult Drawing Course with Bethany Moore beginning Thursday 7 September

Drawing for fun and relaxation. Come along to Cowes Library to enjoy these new fun and relaxed drawing sessions for beginners and improvers. Bring a pencil and a sketchbook if you have one. A variety of paper, pencils and art materials will be provided each week so you can try out different drawing mediums and be inspired by new ideas. Refreshments are provided too! You can always start the following week Thursday 14 if unable to make the 7 September. An additional session will be put on for any late starters.

Cost is £15 per week (or only £10 per week when you book all 6 classes upfront).

Class date are:

  • September 7, 14, 21, 2 - 4pm.
  • October 5, 2 - 4pm.
  • October 12, 9.30 - 11.30am.
  • October 19, 2 - 4pm.

Family History One-2-One starting Monday 11 September 10am - 12pm

Cowes Library has a friendly and experienced family historian offering one to one sessions to assist with growing your family tree. Whether just starting out or needing help with a family history mystery,

Sessions are held in Cowes Library on Monday mornings starting from 11 September 2017 at an hourly rate of £6 per hour. If this is not convenient, then speak to a member of staff to arrange an alternative time.

Isle of Wight Day at Cowes Library Saturday 23 September

Cowes Library is celebrating Isle of Wight Day with a Donated Book Sale during normal opening hours 10am - 4.30pm. Includes adult books, children's books and DVDs. There will also be a special Children's LEGO club 10.30am - 12.30pm. Any donations of books welcome before the day.

Cakes and refreshments will be available courtesy of the Supporters of Cowes Library.

Who Do You think you are? Tuesday 3 October 2 - 4.30pm

Free drop-in session to get advice from the County Record Office staff. Learn about genealogy resources and how to research your family history. For more information contact the Record Office at or telephone 01983 823820.

Celebrating Age Week Tea and Coffee morning at Cowes Library Sat 7 October 10am - 1pm

A representative from AgeUK IW will be at Cowes Library during the morning to provide information and advice. Cowes Heritage mambers will also be available to meet and are looking for new members to join the Group.

Come and see what activities the library has to offer. There will be cakes and refreshments available.

Family History Online Thursday 19 October 10am - 12pm

The Isle of Wight Record Office will be running a 2 hour online session on Family History in Cowes Library.Cost is £5 per person. You must book in advance by contacting Cowes Library on the 'contact' tab above.

Cowes Heritage Ongoing Exhibition: 'The development of Somerton airfield'

The ongoing Cowes Heritage display in Cowes Library is currently showing 'The development of Somerton airfield' containing a mixture of interesting local information on the people, places and businesses that have been involved over the years. The exhibition can be seen during normal opening hours and is changed on a monthly basis.

During May Cowes Heritage have placed a 75th Anniversary of the Defence of Cowes and East Cowes by the Polish Destroyer ORP Blysckawica Exhibition, in Cowes Library.
