Councillors

Mr Geoff Lumley

Welcome to My Website

Geoff LumleyOn 2 May 2013 the people of Newport East ward (the communities of Pan, Barton and Shide) honoured me by re-electing me for a third time to be their IW councillor (and Newport Parish councillor) for the next 4 years - now one of two Labour councillors on an 'independent' minority lead IW Council. It will continue to be my role to challenge, hold to account and scrutinise the decisions of the Council leadership. Of course I will spend most of my time on ward matters, which is my main function. I hope I will continue to get the balance right.

Please leave messages on my Home phone number and I will get back to you within 24 hours unless I am away. I also generally respond to emails within 24 hours, particularly those from residents, again unless I am away.

Political Group: Labour
Electoral Division: Newport East
Address: 30 Fairlee Road

Biography: I live two minutes walk outside Newport East, in Fairlee Road, with my partner Mary. I have lived in Newport for 24 years and 27 years on the Island in total, having moved here from London - where I gained a BSc honours degree at the London School of Economics in 1979. Originally I am from Sunderland and then Durham in the north east - which you will be able to tell when I speak! I am now 58 years old.

I took early retirement on medical grounds in 2013 after a working life in local government (20 years in housing and social services) and then the civil service (14 years). Throughout my working life I was an active trade unionist and I retain retired membership.

I have been involved in Pan issues for over 20 years and am delighted to be both it's and Shide's elected representative at County Hall.
