Get recycling and waste wrapped up

The festive season is rapidly approaching and the Isle of Wight Council, in partnership with Amey, would like to wish a merry Christmas to all of you on the Island and inform residents of temporary changes to the household recycling and waste collections on Christmas week (Monday 26 to Saturday 31 December 2016).

The inaugural Violence Against Women and Girls Conference (VAWG) has taken place at the Riverside Centre, Newport and attracted an audience of 120 delegates of professionals from the statutory, voluntary or third sector organisations across the Island.

Free parking in council long stay car parks on 3 December 2016
Free parking on Small Business Saturday

The Isle of Wight Council will once again be part of Small Business Saturday on Saturday 3 December, and will not charge motorists to park in any of its long stay car parks across the Island between 12pm and 6pm. This also includes Ventnor car parks and Pier Square car park in Yarmouth.

The Isle of Wight Council has successfully secured £50,000 from the government to help develop a bid for up to £500,000 from the government’s One Public Estate programme which is designed to help public sector organisations make better use of their land and properties to help make savings, generate income and create new jobs and homes.

Keeping well and warm this winter

Winter illnesses can spread rapidly around areas and no matter your age or your health, anyone can fall ill with diarrhoea and sickness. Diarrhoea and vomiting (gastroenteritis) is currently circulating in the Island community. Feeling sick and then vomiting is usually the first sign that you have a ‘tummy bug’. Gastroenteritis is unpleasant and can spread very easily.

£42,000 grant to help young historians

Thanks to a £42,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, young people on the Isle of Wight will soon be able to develop the skills and knowledge to become oral historians.
