The mobile recycling centre is hitting the road
Recycling is on the move!

The council’s new mobile household recycling centre (mobile HRC) will be out in the community from next week with a regular timetable of visits across the Isle of Wight from Tuesday 28 February.

Cycling together

Island teachers have attended a one-day Balanceability instructor training day to support them to be able to teach very young children to ride balance bikes, thanks to a grant from the council’s sustainable travel transition year programme, which is funded by the Department for Transport.

Members of Newchurch 1st Scouts Beavers Group have been learning about the importance of recycling more and wasting less at an interactive waste themed workshop.

The workshop was provided by the council, in partnership with Amey, and was led by Island organisation the Footprint Trust.

The council has been successful in securing £250,000 through the government’s One Public Estate (OPE) programme to be used to scope the development of a range of projects to generate income for public services and new homes and jobs for the Island.

The Isle of Wight Council’s new Executive member for children’s services, Councillor Chris Whitehouse, says he is “setting the new administration’s sights high” when it comes to teacher recruitment and retention, with a view to making the Island a “beacon of excellence” to drive up education standards for all our children.
