Applying to foster

Adult and child clasped hands

What is the fostering application process?

Once we have received your application, the assessment process will begin. This can take up to 16 weeks to complete depending on your individual circumstances.

We have a duty to ensure that the people we assess meet our minimum fostering standards of care to provide safe homes for our children.

When you first apply, we will need to check a few things. This process includes police checks, employment references, a full medical, as well as a health and safety inspection of your home.

There are four stages in the recruitment process before being approved as a foster carer. You must meet the requirements at all four stages. The stages are as follows:

  • enquiry and home visit
  • skills to Foster training
  • social worker assessment
  • fostering panel.
